Bought a look-a-like new style Nano supposedly 4gb memory on eBay here from an English seller:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAP...sPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=004

The seller that sold it to me originally bought it from a Chinese seller - their reason for sale was that they "aren't very technically minded" and so can't work out how to use it. I bought it being aware that some Chinese look-a-likes have hacked memory, but I emailed the person before receiving it saying that I would be wanting a refund if this was the case.

I got it today and it turns on normally, seems to be charging up when connected to the USB, and it is detected by my PC when plugged in too. A new drive comes up on my PC like it does when you plug in a USB stick etc, and it seems to look like you drop and drag files into it. When I do this however, it comes up with an error message saying that it cannot transfer the files - I've tried music, video, photos...

I have also right clicked on the drive and viewed properties, and it says that there is indeed 4gb of memory BUT only half of this seems to be free memory. When I browse through the MP4 player I can't find any files on it that might be taking up this space. Is this what a hacked memory player does?

I have looked in the feedback of the Chinese seller and I can't find any negative feedback from other buyers about this particular player being faulty... I have also found the feedback that my English seller left them, and it's positive and doesn't mention any faults.

Does anyone know why I can't add files?

Random idea Joey...there is a slide switch but I've worked out that it's the on/off switch. So that idea won't work

I've got the exactly same one as this and i bought it from China. You need to install the drivers from the disc. There is two usb things. One is for the firmware memory, and one is for the data. You need to put your songs in the data one. Post me a screenshot of the folder and i'll help you out.

Hiya, I took it round my boyfriend's house last night and he formatted the drive and now because of that I can put music and photos on it. Also when I look at the drive capacity it now says 4gb free memory. I haven't tested if this 4gb is fully playbackable yet though, I'm currently adding my whole music collection to see how much it takes.

Can't get movies to play on it yet though, but GIF animations seem to work in the photos section...

Fizzy.

As is said, theres two folders. One is for firmware, and one is for data. **Don't delete the firmware one** If you do, the mp4 player is broken for ever.

(The firmware folder has lots of weird files in it)

(If you want to play videos, it has to be in a certain format, NOT MP4. Hense it says mp4 player. Theres a converter on the disc which will convert your videos to the correct format. Use that and it'll work.)

Where are these two folders you're talking about? If you mean on the MP4 drive itself then there aren't any folders, it's just empty. If you mean on the driver disk then there are about 4 or 5 different things and they're all converter programmes I think.

About the videos - the format it needs is apparently AVI and I've tried AVI videos and they don't work...

I don't mean folders, i mean partitions.

And nope, its definately not meant to be as a AVI.

If you look on the driver disc, there should be a program installer. (Look on the disc, not auto-run), double click that and it'll install the converter. Then just simply click what video you want to convert and it'll do it.

Kieran. Even though it says its a MP4 player. Its not a mp4 player. It plays videos but in a different format.
