Could we please have reasoning behind peoples answers?
This is a debate section, and it is beneficial to all, if the posters can give their "debate" on their answers.
Personally, I do not believe that god exists.
If we are asking if god exists, then the question should be - Which God? The reason for this is because of all the "different" gods that are "worshipped".
Also, people state that the world was created by god, and all the beings on it. Once gain, this begs the question - which god? If there is only one god, as each religeon trys to tell us, then why has this one god, let himself be worshipped in different guises and names?
Also, if there is a god, and he supposedly loves all his disciples, why then does he allow suffering and murder of his creation? Others will say that he gave free will to mankind, to make their own choices, right or wrong. But does that include killing innocent people in "his name"?
Also, if god does exist, then why has he not intervened to help in areas that are hit with famine, and disease? Children, who are totally innocent of what is happening in the world, are being born in these areas, and are then dying. Why would god allow his "miracles of life" to be snuffed of their life, so early into it, and through no fault of their own?
If we look back through history, right up to the present day, most death and suffering, through wars, has been caused by religion, with one faith claiming their god is the right one, and all others who do not believe in him, deserve to die. If this is the case, then why has "god" allowed this to continue over the centuries?
To be honest,, in my opinion, God is just an idea created by man, to enable the few, to fleece the many.
Look at the church, and see how rich is is, taking money from its disciples.
That is my views anyway, and I probably opened a can of worms, and will probably get flamed for it, but if you sdtart to ask whether god is real, it reveals a lot of questions, and seemingly no answers.

I don't believe in God, but I do believe that there is something there, a greater force. I mean, Look at the way everything is designed. (Know (Funnily enough) as the Design argument) The human body; It's such a complicated thing, the way everything fits together and there is something for every job. Thene there is the thing of disease and life illness. I have Gilbert's Syndrome
(If you don't know, I have an abnormal gene that controls an enzyme in my liver that breaks down bilirubin, which is old broken down red blood cells. If I have excessive levels of bilirubin in my bolld, I can experience jaundice. Basically, it makes me turn yellow sometimes.)
which is an inherited disease, so I've had it all my life. There is no cure. But it's not serious. But if everything is so perfect, then why have people like me got Gilbert's? Because obviously they're not perfect. Also illnesses like autism and the like. Basically anyone with disabilities.

So, if you are a muslim, you beleive in Allah, as the one true god.
Aslo, you say that god (as in Allah) creates terrorists and the like, to test us.
Why then, do certain terrorists that are muslim, commit atrocoties, in the name of Allah?
Surely if, as you state, he is creating them, you would think he would not want them to kill in his name. Also, considering that the Koran (which is supposed to be gods words) teaches peace and not war.
The same can be said for any religion. The Christians ran crusades etc, killing in the name of their god.
In fact, all religions have killed in the name of their god, because they believe their god is the one and only one, which is a bit of a contradiction really.
This goes to show that religion is nothing more than an excuse to kill and pillage of other people.
Look back in history, nearly all wars have been created by religion.

very good point but...........
Allah has created these people as a test on us. Its a test on how we react to this and how we deal with it. There are people who are terrorist and say that they are killing in the name of Allah but they have been brain washed by people who are the leaders of these terrorists and they will be punished for their sins. We just live our lives and follow our religion and we wont be punished for it, they will be punished for it.
(I think i mentioned enough there)

I was Christened when I was a baby and my mum brought up the family with a Christian sort of ethos but we never practised religion and rarely went to church. As I have grown up I have decided for myself that there is no God. This might have been influenced by my A-Level in philosophy but, regardless, I have just somehow come to a decision within myself. The fact that I was Christened therefore means nothing to me.
I do not believe in anything spiritual, and I see the 'soul' as just something to describe the personality and vibe of a person. I believe that when you die you die, and the only form of 'afterlife' is that as your body decomposes it acts as nutrients in the soil and helps the trees and plants to grow. These trees and plants provide oxygen to living beings on earth. That is the only afterlife that I believe in and it is simply scientific not spiritual.
I don't have a very deep understanding of science at all, but I believe that the world came about by chance and simply developed and evolved to what it has become today. Religion and things such as the soul are simply stories and ideas created to comfort people in times of crisis or when having to deal with problems. I mean, it's nicer to think that your lost relative has gone off to a heaven and is looking out for you from the skies, than that they're simply in the ground.

If you believe in a god, it follows that you believe in ghosts? Because if theres a god theres got to be an afterlife.

Yes that would be the case with people who believe in God I would assume.

I believe in God he is great to me and i am a Christian and go to church by the way all the bad things in the world like terrorists, murderers and diseases these are not things or people that God has created the Devil has created these things and if God is real then i am going to heaven and if god is not real i will have had a happy life anyway.

I Believe in God, i think that there must be some sort of force to stop our planet colliding with another planet or a comet destroying it.
PLUS to all the "why would God make bad things" people :
If there was no bad things we would not know what was good as we would have nothing to guage it against, how can you have good without bad? you cant.
there would also be no point in heaven if earth was all good?
and if there was nothing bad on earth there would be nothing to test you as a person, to make the right decisions, you wouldnt be living, you would merely be existing.

I believe in God. Religion? Not too sure.
There is no way of things just to happen. The slightest movements in space can cause a universe. But for something to happen- it has to be made happen. By what? This is where God comes. There has to be magic to make nothing into something.

Well argued.
Thomas Aquinus said that "Evil is the absence of Good, therefore God could not have created it [evil]." (A bit like Black is the absence of light)
Sorry, but I think that is a pathetic argument. Surely God must of created Evil, because where there is no good, if God didn't create evil, there would just be nothing. Nothing at all.
I think Evil has to be in the world, to balance out the good, like a Maths or Physics equation. Both sides have to be the same, otherwise it's invalid.

In my opinion the human race created what they deemed as good and evil, thus creating what is known as the conscience, through experience. Good and evil was not created by a greater being or God, it was simply learnt through the experience of the world's people through the ages.
