Racist Geography GCSE exam question

In the Geography DME exam paper I took a few days ago there was a question:

More black people died in the New Orleans disaster.

This was because they were in poorer quality housing. Why was this?

How can you answer this without being slightly racist?

I had a go in the best way I could and used some stats we were given in a lesson.
iPodtouch

OMG, Thats Terrible
ryberto

well i think thats the answer really isnt it? that race at that point and there was an issue so they did have poor housing.
Reaper

I would say because the people who made the house were racist.
That's not you being racist in the slightest.
Fizzy

It's not really racist... It's just a sociological fact that a lot of black people are living in poorer housing in that area of America. The question was just asking you to talk about how black people are more disadvantaged I think.

Basically what I put, along with the fact that I learnt in a lesson the 75% of the poorest people in New Orleans were black
.HAZ

They had poor housing, so they died.

Oh come on, how is that racist?
It's because more black people live in new Orleans, because it's cheaper to live there, because Black people don't earn as much as Upper class white people.

Seriously, you're the sort of person that shouldn't be allowed to exist, it's a fact, not an opinion.

Racism is an opinion, comprende?
Idiot.
ManicStreetPreacher

oh god, that's really bad. And they've answered the question in the question. "Poor housing quality" !

It's a bit like saying:

How do you spell misogynist, without looking at how we've spelt it in the question?
Spooks

Its not a particularly nice queston
