omg don't double post! What is it with the members of this forum? I see a topic where somebody has posted twice, instantly they feel the need to post saying, "omg double posting I'm reporting you!". So instead of contributing to the discussion, they bump the thread up without adding any information.
Secondly, that's back seat modding. You're not a moderator for a reason, so don't try and be one. The admins don't care if you constantly post, "omg double post" it won't get you a moderator position.
Contributing to the forum positively will get you further, not constantly moaning about double posting.
Same with "reports central". Who on earth came up with that idea? Going near that place and I get the foul stench of rotting faeces, I don't know how you can all stand that stench following you around, on your noses.
Surely if you've found someone double posting, it's the moderators Job to sort it, not yours. If the moderators can't handle it, then leave it. Double posting is nothing, especially when the majority of double posts contain so much more than you post on a daily basis.
So yeah, for the people incapable of reading this without collapsing, I shall add a summary:
- You're not going to be a moderator unless you contribute, posting "omg double poster dieeeee" isn't contributing, let alone positively.

Re: omg don't double post!Eh, yet most the times, i see people contribute.. by bidding/selling/advicing THEN say 'o btw, don't double post'
I no what u mean by 'back seat moderating' and yeah it anoys me too, but i think it's a good idea for the time being.. since theres been what, 1 mod on per week? and thts only a couple of hours per day.
So when tht mod logs on its easier to go to 'reports central' and just skim through the topics posted.
Yet, when the new mods/admins are anounced, i do think 'back seat modding' should be stopped
(Also, you yourself have made a topic that is a 'moaning' topic)

I'm exempt from the rules because I don't care about my account.
Gives me an advantage really, I can say my real "Feelings" (Lol feelings about an internet forum) without a worry about the repercussions.
But yeah, the problem with moderators or whatever is the main cause of all this, did Joey finally decide that moderators should be specific to sections or anything? I remember rambling about that a while back...

i agree sammm
but reports central is there for a reason

i agree
it's ok if you just mention it but i've seen a few members who if you accidently double post as you missed something out that you really want to include they go and report you straight away! I think that's really bad as if you've got something good to contribute you might as well say it instead of having to wait untill someone else posts. Also lots of the new members have been reported for double posting.. isn't that a bit harsh?
yes i seem to get the impression that reports central is like just where you go and tell tales on other members as (in my opinion) many people are repoted for very minor things there. (Although some things do need to be reported i agree but occassional double posting is one that i think should be excused.

But theres absolutely no reason to double post realy. Theres a thing called an edit button, if anything needs altering all's anyone have to do is click it and add what they want to their post?
So yeah theres no real excuse for it.
EDIT: Although having said that, I don't think it's something to report about also.

So if I make a post in a topic saying, "blah blah blah this means that" and then 5 hours later I think, "omg wait no, it doesn't I'm wrong!" It makes sense for me to go back and edit my post, that nobody will see? Who checks topic's that have had no new replies?
It makes perfect sense why people double post.

They just do it "accidentaly" to get their post up.

I fell we should clamp down and have severe consequences on double posting.
cant you have a hack that if 2 posts from the same member follow the 2nd gets deleted or edited? or maybe it doesnt count towards postcount.
Its a thought.

Anyway, yeh, double posting is a stupid rule, Iv never liked it as on forums you shouldn't have to worry about posting two messages in a row. When your speaking to somebody in real life you can't just say one sentance then wait for them to speak so you can speak again? I know this is different, but on a forum 'double posting' isn't a great rule IMO.
I see what people are saying but Report Central is there to help moderators, when/if we get Phpbb3 it wont be there as there will be a report button, this way it just saves the staff time.
The fact is at the moment Report Central is there and when you see somebody breaking the rules, (double posting being a rule) then your meant to report them, thats the way it works, doesn't it? Then again, theres no need to spam the topic saying 'Omg I reported you - Dont double post' Just report whatever/whoever in report central so the staff can get it sorted without you spamming aswell.
So I agree in some ways, but not in others

Iv seen it done, but not with Phpbb
However it sounds like a really good idea
~
Well yeh Gaz, but the current moderators ignore most things, double posting is one of many?
(No offence to the moderators =P )
