Yes well 16 is the leagal age where you can, but tobe honest I would wait until the perfect person comes along and not try and do it before you are "ready"

Just because your friends are having sex, does not mean you "have" to also.
You will know that you are ready when you "want" to have sex with someone, rather then feeling you "have" to have sex with someone.
Losing your virginity is a one time event. You do not want to look back with regret on the occasion.
Just remember to take precautions when you do. You should always ensure a condom is used, as it prevents both pregnancy, as well as sexually transmitted diseases.

I was 16 when I met the right person and we waited 6 months (by which time I was 17) until we had sex. It's definately worth the wait because as Chrissie says it gives you a special bond and I've been with him for 3 and a half years now
Never have sex without protection though, a couple of my friends did and they only ended up panicking afterwards about getting the morning after pill... You also REALLY don't want to catch an sexually transmitted disease because there are a lot of them around and it's a serious problem.
