Hell no, they pay the people who make the balls really low amounts of money. Why does entertainment pay so much?

If I'm Honest It Is Slightly Ridiclous How Much They Get Paid.
You Have To Think, They Are Celebrities, And All Celeb's Get Paid Loads. I Think Its Just One Of Those Things. You Say It's Only 20 Years But At The End Of The Day Once Your A Footballer You Are Set For Life.
Also I Suspose They Do Provide Entertainment But I Think Some Of What The Footballer's Get Paid Is Far Too Much.
What Do You Think Paul?

I think they should get payed more then average people, but I don't think they should be payed as much as they are now.

I am actually on the same lines as you. i think it is ridiculous. I am doing something about it in English at the moment. David Beckham gets paid £540,000 a week compared to some soldiers earning £20,000 a year. RIDICULOUS.

Typical. Another Man. Utd fan, who does not come from Manchester. Surprise surprise.
As usual, it is footballers, who get the spotlight thrown on them.
Ok, so they do get paid excessive amounts - but only in the premiership.
You could compare that with any sport.
The following sports, all the top athletes in that sport are paid excessive amounts of money.
Boxing
Motor Sports
Golf
Basketball
Baseball
Plus many other sports. Need i go on?
So, the point I am making, is that if you are in the top tier of any sport, you will get the highest pay.
Its not just premiership footballers.
How much did Hamilton make in his fist year in F1? And, how much will he earn in the next few years?
His pay will dwarf most of the footballers, yet no one says anything about him.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/formula_1/article3213065.ece
So, to sum up, yes I do think they shoudl be paid the amounts they are. It is high wages, but they are at the top of thier sport, and therefore deserve it.
Plus, they are only getting paid that money, because us as consumers, are willing to pay money to see them play.

They are celebrities and people do want to see them and that's why they get the money. Alot of them don't know what to do so can do one of a few things waste it on random thing eg gambling or stupid items they'll never use and consantly waste their money, save it and buy houses and property so their children are set for life and so are they or in the case of people like Beckham give it to charity and do alot of charity work that help others around them. I respect the ones who set themselves up for life or give to charity as they do themselves as well as others around them good. The other group who just waste their money on drink and things they don't need i feel is a shame. So it's one of those things where it entirely depends on who it is and what they are doing.

so you lot are trying to say a good ball kicker and has a little skill should get payed loads more than someone risking theyre lives to save the country sometimes and footballers do look as if they are on the front line sometimes they dive like babys falling over and get way to much they wouldnt last 2 minutes some of the shoes them soldiers are in and i think that footy players should get payed what the army people are getting paid and the army what the footy players are getting pid it is rediculous and shameful really that we put saps that dive in line first and then real men second who are risking theyre lives

the ticket prises for matchs are terrible and the footballers sould be payed less money but remember it is really hard to become a great footballer and get that much money

No, I am not saying that.
However, you cannot compare the 2.
If you are going to come out with that arguement, then where do you draw the line on salaries.
Is it right that directors of a bank shoud get 1 million a year, yet nurses earn 25k?
The people who join the armed forces, do so, knowing what wages they are going to earn.
But that is a totally seperate debate.
Footballers are entertainers, and therfoire get paid a lot of money, just like film actors, and singers, and all the other proffessions that get mega money for what they do.
You seem to support one of the premiership clubs that actually pay these obscene wages, yet you will still watch your overpaid players running around a pitch, without complaining at their wages.
What would you say if Liverpool decided to cut the wages, and in the process, lost all your star players. Would you be happy? No.
So, with that in mind, you are also condoning the fact that they are on over inflated wages!
It is something that will not change, because they are at their peak in their proffession, and therfore can command the wages they do, just like any other entertainment proffesion.

It all depends on what you define as minimal money.
A survey by the PCA a few seasons ago discovered that (minus the ECB paid wages) the average county cricketer was earning up to an average of £60,000 for 6 months work.
To me, that is not a minimal wage.
On top of that, if they play for England, then the ECB gives them more money. Plus, when they play for their country, their is the endorsment deals.
So, not exactly a minimal wage is it?
True, not quite a premiership footballers wage, but then again, some would argue that a premiership footballer actually performs more often than a cricketer.

Both do a hell of alot of training so when you say little skill for a footballer that's totally incorrect. Also when you say they wouldn't last 2 minutes neither would you probably because we don't put untrained people on the front lines and it would probably be the same the other way round put an army member on a football pitch and they would probaly get thrashed. I partly agree that they are paid stupid amounts of money but the demand for football in this country is huge. If they shouldn't then wher should it stop should actors have the same thing, entertainers, people who win the lottery and get large amounts of money. I agree on your point that there definately are others who should get paid more eg police, army, nurses, paramedics (had to get that in there) and many other jobs but it's where does that line stop.

Football isn't important, protecting the country is, so i think you can see where it is going.
And don't say "that's your opinion" because it really isn't a life or death situation with football.

[quote="Ancodi"]Football isn't important, protecting the country is, so i think you can see where it is going.
quote]
Right, i can see where you are coming from, but it is evident you have no thought it through at all.
Lets look at some facts:
Fottball clubs, who gain revenue through sponshorship and through ticket sales, pay the football players wages, as high as they may be.
The government, who gains revenue through taxes, pays the armed forces.
Each club has to pay around 22 players
The government, in 2007, had to pay 190,400 wages, across the 3 services.
The Football clubs are private companies, and therefore can pay any amount of wages, within their budgets. They also have to pay for the medical side, as well as football strips, and the ground itself.
the Government is not a private company, and, also, can pay the wages that are avaliable in their budget, along with vehicles, weaponry, clothing, rations, medical care, buildings, land etc.
To be blunt, the government is slightly limited to the amount in wages they can pay.
But then, let me ask you, what wage would you say is a reasonable wage to pay a soldier, and then up per rank?
As i mentioned before, the people who join our armed forces, do so knwoingly what the wages are, and therfore have a choice of whether they wish to persue that career, just the same as someone who works at Mcdonalds, or becomes a footballer.
So, although your opinion is that it is life and death, you cannot compare and contrast between the wages of a footballer, and that of an armed forces personnel, as they are two seperate entities - one private, one not, and also two totally different proffesions.
Also, you mention that football is not important. If that were the case, then football would not be as rich as it is today, as I think you will find that millions opf people will disagree with you.
Yes, the armed forces is also important, but there is a fine line between acceptable tax to pay, and unnacceptable.
