SMOKING: Should it be banned?I know that they have stopped the smoking in public places. And from my point of view that's great, you don't have to be around people that smoke all the time and you don't have to inhale the vile smell.
So I absolutley hate the idea opf smoking and if i'm honest I don't really get why people start smoking in the first place. It clearly damages your health and can end up killing you.
So do you think it should be banned?

It will never be fully banned, but I think in the future numbers will go down. People just need more notice such as posters, leaftlets through door and tv Adverts, Like they doing at the moment!
I dont actually know many people that smoke loads, apart from my mum.
I am never gonna try, They dont smell nice

Of course it would be great if it was banned, but its never going to happened.
All the people that are already addicted cant just stop,so its going to be sold, then new generations will buy it,and so on so on.....

I think smoking is an aweful and discusting thing to do and if i became PM the first thing i would do was to put an absolute ban on smoking and anyone caught in possesion of ciggarettes would suffer a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. If you were caught smoking you would go down for life. I would offer good support for those who wish to quit and encourage all to! I never believe it would happen, or just smoking getting banned 100% in th U.K! Thanks

I think all smokers should have a compulsory "lesson" where they have to disect and compare organs from a smoker and a non-smoker.
I did in biology... the smoker's lung was disgusting: it's the one on the right in this picture http://www.faqs.org/health/images/uchr_02_img0171.jpg (not if you're squeamish).
That would definitely encourage a few to stop. The rest should only be allowed to smoke in confined, airtight spaces where their despicable habit can't affect others.

That's vile Jack..
I think that would certainly turn a few people off the idea.
As you lot have said, it's never going to be banned. But I wish it was.

It would be good if it was banned, but think about it, it will turn out like cannabis or any other drug. People will be buying cigarettes from illegal places.. if you get me.. I'm not very good at explaining things.

I don't think it should be banned, purely based on the fact that it is not a practical idea. Smoking to some people is like chocolate is to others I would imagine, it's a little indulgence that people enjoy. By smoking near a non-smoker it may (or may not) affect that persons health, but there are lots of other factors in life that aren't healthy either. Carbon monoxide emissions from cars aren't healthy to inhale, and the pesticides that are sprayed onto non-organic foods that we eat can't be good. It is a persons own choice whether they smoke or not, just as it is a persons choice whether they drive a car or buy organic food.
I like the current smoking ban that has been put in place though. I think it is inconsiderate to smoke indoors when there are other people in close proximity who can't move to be somewhere else, (in a work situation or in a restaurant for example). Outdoors you will often just be walking past a smoker, because places that you'd be waiting at (like train stations) are covered by the current ban.

If smoking was banned we would be a poor world...
A lot of people want to give up but cant, that is the problem.
I wish it would be banned but it wont, definetly not sadly.
I will never smoke and try not to be around smokers.

it isnt that simple if the goverment banned it the country would have sever losses as the money the govement get is billion but they should spend more on advertising

Exactly, if there was no income to the country from it, it would have been banned a while back!

I think it SHOULD be banned but it is impossible for the goverment. This is because they will just try to get it shipped from other countries and that would be a crime in itself. There is no point because you will just invite more trouble. one way or another, truly addicted smokers will find a way to bring smoking back in the country and then will sell to others- just like drugs.
