Super Learning Fridays?!...

Hi. Our school is probably going to introduce "Super learning fridays" as of the new school year, starting this september. (Nothing has been finalised yet) Basically, we get put on a two-week timetable, and on the second week, on a friday, we have one whole day of one lesson, e.g a whole day of maths or a whole day of languages. We have six lessons a day (some doubles), 5 days a week (unless inset day etc.) We all, in my class and year and mostpeople I've spoken to about it, think it's a stupid idea, and that you'll get a lot more people bunking and so on. We think that it might get boring during the day just doing one thing. I'm in yr 11 next school year, so have important exams and stuff. I can see having a day of revision, that's useful. I don't study andy technology subjects, so what will I do when technology day comes up? It won't be beneficial to my exams at all. We were going to go see the head, to find out some more and say our views, but our application for a meeting was denied. As far as I know, only two teachers in the whole school want it, two out of about 200 (Not including the head) and she still decides to go ahead with it.

I just wondered if anyone on here has a simelar scheme or idea in action in their school now, and what it's like. I want to find out a little bit more, before I go storming off to the head again, on go on a rampage or organise a massive protest. Also, what is everyone else's thoughts?

Well I'm at uni and do the same thing all day on the days I go in. It's only boring if it's not structured properly.

My thoughts about having one single subject all day in a school...

Pros:

- Students struggling with certain subjects may start to improve.
- It will bring a bit of variation to what you're used to.

Cons:

- What will the teachers from the other specialist subjects be doing all day if there are single subject days?
- Students who struggle with certain subjects will bunk an entire day rather than single lessons.
- I think it will be hard for the school to maintain an interesting enough structure in these all-day lessons to make learning effective.
