Only 1 month codes I ever get is when my xbox breaks.

You can buy them from gamestation, i do

you either get them free with games (sometimes, GTA IV for example when it came out), free when you get a new xbox like bradley said or by buying them with a debit/credit card on you xbox under the memberships bit.
you can't buy them from shops
