as in some in London are still unofficially on strike, and the time it'll take to clear a weeks worth of mail in London, the busiest english city, its going to take ages

How many letters and parcels are caught up in the system?

Estimates vary from 200million (t***) to as few as 80million (Royal Mail). There are fears that workers are unlikely to be rushing to clear the backlog before more strikes start on Monday.

How much has it cost Royal Mail?

£260million

Can I post with confidence today?

No. The backlog will mean that the service is slow. Your best option is to go to a Post Office – which will be open – and pay for a Special Delivery. This service, which usually guarantees next day delivery, starts at £4.30 a letter.
