A man in his 30s has been arrested after a 15-year-old girl was found brutally stabbed to death in the lift of a block of flats near London's Waterloo station.

The young teenager, who was dressed in her school uniform, had been the victim of an attack so ferocious that the handle of the knife used to kill her had broken off.
She suffered at least 10 stab wounds to her front, neck and back.
Her lifeless body was discovered at Matheson Lang House on Baylis Road in Southwark by a woman who was getting into the lift with her child.
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of the girl's murder.
A police spokesman said: "We are keeping an open mind about motive at this early stage. However, it is not believed to be gang related."
Reporting from the scene, Sky's crime correspondent Martin Brunt said: "This is one of the areas that has recently been targeted by police in an anti-knife campaign.
"The Metropolitan police has upped its presence and brought in knife arches and weapon wands.
"But the last couple of hours suggests their efforts to tackle knife crime have not so far been working."
The London Ambulance Service was called at 3:45pm and sent a fast response car, an ambulance and an air ambulance, the first of which arrived in under four minutes.
"Sadly, despite extensive efforts to resuscitate the patient, she was pronounced dead at the scene," a spokesman said.
The victim's next of kin have since been informed.
Neighbour Sharon Moore said: "You think you are fine once you are in the building, this is the last thing you expect... I'm extremely shocked because once I'm in the door and I get in I think I am safe."
She said residents in the flats were given security fobs on Friday as part of measures to tighten up security.
"I feel very insecure and afraid for my children and for the other children in the block," she added.
The girl is the 16th teenager to be killed violently in London so far this year.
Most of the young victims of gun and knife crime in the capital have been boys or young men.

It's terrible. You're not even safe in your own home anymore. You cannot trust anyone fully, for the fear that your trust may be misplaced. The question bugging us all is WHY DO THEY DO IT?? However, the only person who knows why the murderer did it is the murderer. Half of the problem is the government are too soft on some people. For instance; a man sending threatening letters to Tesco was given twelve years in jail, whereas a man who raped and sexually assalted an eleven year old girl was only given four years. FOUR YEARS!! Sorry, it makes me really angry. _________________ If God were human he'd be James Dean Bradfield

The prison sentences people are given these days are stupid, you're right. In my opinion it should be a life for a life (not the death sentence though, proper life imprisonment).
Every time I've seen a story like this lately I've thought "Oh for goodness sake not another one". There have been way too many recently. Unless this is what it's always been like, and the media have been making a big thing about all of them this year.

I recently lost a friend from being stabbed, on new years eve, and this news has brought back all those memories. Theres far to many people carrying knives, and are prepared to use them.. Only this evening I was outside my local chip shop and a fight broke out with a lone lad and 3 other lads, because one lad ( the one on his own ) was getting the better of one of them, 2 other lads ran over, and kicked and punch him to the ground..
Theres far to much violence going on, and knives are, it seems, the easy weapon to use in sorting out differenses.. _________________

I think perhaps parenting in the UK has gone terribly wrong. I mean myself and a lot of people from my 'era' who are now in their early 20's weren't like this as young teenagers I'm sure
Kids are being allowed out and about on their own at an earlier age, and are staying out later. I wasn't even allowed out shopping on my own with friends in the daytime until I was about 14. I see kids out in town on their own in groups of friends at age 10 and younger now.

Yes. Life is life, not 30 years for "good behaviour". The death sentence is wrong, even though some argue that they sould have done back to them what they did. I think that they shold be made to live with it. In America, they have better prision sentences, sometimes adding up to 300 years or so._________________ If God were human he'd be James Dean Bradfield
